Ingredients to Make Your Own Vacation: Pool Supplies, Fruity Drinks and Fun

One of the greatest parts of summertime is the prospect of a family vacation. A vacation is an instant form of relaxation. Warm sand, drinks with tiny umbrellas and dinner out are all stress relieving. Unfortunately, summertime does not always equal a vacation on the beach. In these cases, there are things you can do to create your own relaxing environment at home.

The first thing to do is take all plans off the schedule that do not involve fun. If the thought of doing something makes you sigh and roll your eyes, or brings you a sense of dread, take it off your list right now. It should not be scheduled for your time off. Think of what is keeping you from going on an island vacation. For many people, this will be a lack of funds. Guess what? You can have all of the fun at home for a fraction of the cost. Now think of the things you will miss. The goal is to recreate your dream vacation at home.

You are going to need some pool supplies. Even if all you can afford is a soft-side pool, that's okay. Purchase it, set it up and add the water treatments. Now, you need to get some sand. You can pick up play sand for a couple dollars a bag at the hardware store; grab a tarp while you are there. Lay down your tarp near the pool and dump the sand on it. One day in the sun and it will be nice and toasty. Next, make sure you are well stocked on fruit, ice, juice and—for those over 21—adult beverages if you so desire. When all of this is set up, you are nearly ready for vacation to begin. Turn on some music, grab a great beach read and go relax!

I agree with you that one of the greatest parts of summertime is the prospect of a family vacation.
